Located on the eastern bank of the sluggish Albert Nile, Fort Murchison Lodge recalls memories of a well-kept, remote stronghold from the days when Arab traders frequented the African interior and fabled explorers conducted quests to find the Nile’s source. Fort Murchison is unlike any other in Uganda since it was strategically placed and drew inspiration from its rich historical past.
The distinctive African safari lodge known as Fort Murchison Lodge is designed to resemble the immaculate Arabic architecture of a remote Arab traders’ outpost from the nineteenth century. The lodge is situated on the eastern banks of the White Nile, which meanders towards South Sudan’s border with northern Uganda. The lodge’s enormous tower and earth-hued walls are evocative of the great explorers who founded and oversaw expeditions here to find the Nile’s source. It’s the ideal location to enjoy the bliss of historical travel because of its striking Swahili-inspired style and decor.
Whether staying in one of our lovely rooms or one of our cosy thatched tents, Fort Murchison provides a range of cosy lodging options to fit any budget, from mid-range to lower end. We always promise excellent value for your money. Situated just beyond the northern park boundaries of Murchison Falls National Park, Fort Murchison is located in the former Aswa Lolim Game reserve. It overlooks the magnificent Albert Nile and is situated in a lovely area.
The lodge provides a range of cosy rooms, ranging from mid-level to lower-range, in both comfy grass-thatched bandas and Swahili-styled accommodations. Each of the property’s twelve rooms contains a living area, an outdoor space, an ensuite bathroom, and solar power connection. All meals are served in the main building’s restaurant on the main floor, which also features a rooftop terrace that’s great for sundowners and offers breathtaking views of the broad savannah plains and the Nile.
In addition to the main lodge, Fort Murchison provides non-self-contained tents. These come with a bedside table, two single beds with mosquito nets, and a power outlet for charging electronics. They are very nicely decorated. Your personal patio is created and much-needed shade is provided by the grass thatched roof that covers all of the tents. An ablution block with showers and flushing toilets is shared by the tents. All bedding and towels are provided, so there’s no need to worry about linens.
A fantastic beginning point for Uganda safari game watching drives in the park’s northern game tracks, including as the Pakuba, Queen’s, Te’bito, Chobe, Victoria, and Albert tracks, is the lodge’s location right outside Murchison’s northern entry gate. In addition, amazing wildlife species like Rothschild’s giraffes, leopards, lions, buffalo, and elephants may be found in the northern region of Murchison Falls National Park.
The rooftop patio is the ideal location for your drink as the sun sets. Following their enjoyment of the magnificent Albert Nile views, guests make their way to our restaurant, where a delectable four-course dinner is waiting for them. The restaurant’s décor features sketches and pictures from the first explorers’ travels, giving it a flavour of Swahili culture.
