Mihingo Lodge is a family-run resort in a wonderful setting next to Lake Mburo National Park with incredibly private rooms. Situated high on a rocky kopje whose pre-Cambrian granite boulders were created over 500 million years ago, it offers stunning views over a vast savannah area. This environmentally conscious lodge offers luxury, relaxation, and a sensation of being at one with nature. It was constructed to blend in with its delicate surroundings.
Overlooking the valley below, an infinity pool offers a view of the waterhole frequented by buffalo, eland, impala, warthogs, bush bucks, and zebra. You might get the unique opportunity to witness the Klipspringer family that lives on the rocks. Walking with giraffes and going on horseback safaris in Lake Mburo National Park are two of the most thrilling activities. There are also some fantastic game drives with beautiful vistas, night game drives, boat cruises, and walking safaris that depart from Mihingo Lodge.
The only establishment in Uganda that provides both day and nighttime equestrian safaris is Mihingo Lodge, catering to visitors looking for a distinctive and genuine African bush experience. On one of your game drives, you might even spot the elusive leopard, as Lake Mburo National Park is home to a sizable population of these bashful animals.
The large dining and living room, where all meals are served and visitors can mingle, is perched high on the rocky kopje. This is a great place to see wildlife and savour Sarah’s delectable three-course meals, with expansive views of the plains. Using organically grown produce from the on-site garden, Sarah’s cuisine combines flavours and herbs from around the globe. It is one of the coolest spots in the resort on a hot day because of the soothing air that comes from Lake Kacheera.
There are twelve opulent tented rooms at Mihingo Lodge, each with its own distinct charm and personality. All of the private safari tents offer breathtaking views of the spacious sanctuary, whether they are positioned on a rocky ledge, tucked away in the forest, or facing the lake or waterhole.
Every roomy canvas tent has an attached bathroom and is carefully designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, paying close attention to every little detail. Beautiful dead olive wood pieces that were discovered on the site frame the doors, giving the already opulent rooms a hint of rustic charm.
The warm hues of African soil are reflected in the lodge’s walls, which draw inspiration from Lamu Island’s architecture and way of life. Granite boulders are dramatically incorporated into the bathroom design in several of the rooms, giving visitors a one-of-a-kind and immersive experience. Your stay at Mihingo Lodge will be both luxurious and environmentally friendly because the lodge runs solely on solar energy.
One of the two access roads leading from the major Mbarara-Masaka highway leads directly to Mihingo Lodge. The longer of the two routes, the Sanga gate Northern Park Access Road, is 37 km east of Mbarara and heads south, making it the perfect choice for visitors arriving from western Uganda or having recently completed gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
It is easier to use the route that branches off to the south-east of the park towards Mbarara, about 20 km past Lyantonde town, at the 50 km sign (look for a blue milk factory). If you are driving from Kampala. The park’s Nsanga gate is around 9 km away from here, but you’ll need to veer off to the left and walk another 13 km to get to Mihingo Lodge.
