10 Days Primates and Wildlife Safari in Rwanda

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival – Kigali Airport.

After passing through customs and immigration at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted by our company guide who will extend a warm welcome to you as you arrive in the country known as the “land of a thousand hills.” You will then be driven to the hotel you have reserved for a tour briefing, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After eating an early breakfast today, you will check out of the lodge and make your way to the Kigali city tour, which includes a visit to the memorial sites for the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Through education and peacebuilding, this site honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans who lost their lives in that country. A few of the incident survivors’ video clips will be available for you to view and hear. Following lunch, you will drive to Volcanoes National Park and check into your reserved lodging. The remainder of the day will be spent relaxing and getting ready for the trekking the following day.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You will be taken to the park headquarters after a hearty breakfast. When you meet with your ranger, they will go over the code of behaviour that applies to gorilla trekking. After that, you’ll head into the forest to find the gorillas. Depending on how quickly your group moves and how the gorillas travel through the forest, the trekking could take two to six hours. Meet and spend no more than 60 minutes with the gorillas. Following a fantastic experience, you will walk back to the starting point and be taken to your lodge for lunch. Following lunch, you can choose to either take it easy at your lodge or go to Iby’ Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural encounter to have a better understanding of Rwandan culture.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast this morning, you will be picked up by our safari driver guide, who will then take you to the park headquarters for a briefing and to begin your golden monkey trekking adventure, which involves searching the bush for these reticent primates. Although less strenuous than gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking is comparable to the experience of trekking gorillas. After lunch, you will head back to the lodge and then travel to Lake Kivu to enjoy a nighttime fishing experience in this stunning lake.

Day 5: Coffee Tour Experience – Transfer To Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Proceed to Kimbiri for a tour of coffee plantations and processing after breakfast in the morning. Afterward, you’ll be taken to Nyungwe National Park. We will visit this national park’s canopy walk as soon as we arrive. The views from this suspended bridge are quite amazing. For dinner and the night, drive to the hotel.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking – Tea Plantation Visit

After a cup of African coffee in the morning, you will depart from your hotel today to explore Nyungwe’s natural forest, which is home to 13 different kinds of monkeys. You will then be taken to the park for chimpanzee trekking and a briefing. You are allotted one hour to locate the chimpanzees. After completing the chimpanzee hike, have lunch before visiting a tea farm to discover more about the production process.

Day 7: Waterfalls Hike – Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast in the morning, take a two- or three-hour walk throughout the park to see various waterfalls. A lucky day can also reveal a number of birds and primates. Then turn around and leave for Kigali, making stops for lunch and a tour of the King Palace Museum the route before reaching the city in the afternoon.

Day 8: Transfer to Akagera National Park.

After an early breakfast today, you will be picked up by our safari guide and driven to Akagera National Park at 8:00 am. Depending on the stops made along the way, the drive to Akagera National Park takes approximately 2.5 hours. The drive is scenic and winding, so feel free to ask the guide for photo opportunities at any of the stopovers. After a quick game drive and check-in, we will head to our accommodations in the park. Later, we’ll have a boat tour on Lake Ihema to see hippos and crocodiles in the water or along the coasts, as well as buffalo and elephants lazing by the banks of the water. After dinner, make your way back to the lodge for the night.

Day 9: Full Day Game Drive – Night Game Drive.

You will depart for a full day of game drive sightings after enjoying your morning meal at the resort. You will then carry on with your animal quest for wildlife in the park. You can explore this lovely park in a different way if you’d like. Lunch will be given in a picnic style throughout the day. Go for a night game drive later in the evening in the hopes of seeing some nocturnal animals. After that, you’ll be taken back to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 10: Return to Kigali – Departure.

You will return to Kigali in the morning after breakfast. You might have a city tour before your flight that includes a stop at the Nyamirambo women’s centre and the Kimironko local market, depending on when you are departing.
