Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival – Kigali Airport.

One of our tour guides will meet you at the Kigali International Airport and take you to your hotel. Please receive a briefing for your trip of the land of a thousand hills.

Day 2: Kigali to Rubavu.

After being picked up from your accommodation in Kigali, you will go on a City Tour of the city that includes a visit to the Genocide Memorial site, which serves as a sombre reminder of the needless slaughter of innocent people in 1994. Drive around Kivu Lake to Rubavu in the afternoon. After spending the night at the Soeurs Benedict rides Guest House, you drive to Rubavu city, which is located on the eastern bank of Lake Kivu, the largest lake in Rwanda’s lowlands. Once there, you check into your hotel and take an afternoon tour of the city.

Day 3: Gisenyi – Rwinyoni.

You will make your first overland trek to the village of Rwinyoni, northwest of Lake Kivu, following an early breakfast at your accommodation, a pre-departure briefing from your guide, and directions to the trailhead for the start of your adventure. You may enjoy the breathtaking sun on the lakeshore from this location. When we get to Kimbiri, we’ll take a short stroll to explore the village’s environs.

Day 4: Rwinyoni – Kinunu

You have two hours to walk this morning to reach the renowned fishing village of Nkora. From here, you may take in the scenery, including kids having fun in the lake and fisherman coming in from their customary nighttime fishing expedition. After passing through banana and tea plantations, the walk ends at 1:00 pm at our lodging. We’ll give you a guided tour of the Kinunu washing station after lunch so you may get your first taste of coffee. Staying overnight at The Senators Guest House in Kinunu.

Day 5: Kinunu – Congo Nile via Musasa

You will engage with the locals, take in the scenery and banana plantations, stroll around Lake Kivu for eight hours, and visit the renowned Kinunu Catholic Church. In the settlement of Bwimana Musasa, follow the path of the coffee washing station and halt for a picnic by the lake. A 4×4 car will join you at 17:00 to take you to Congo Nile for the night.

Day 6: Congo Nile to Rubengera Junction

You will need to get up early on that day because you will need to walk for at least seven hours to reach the Rubengera junction. You will need to follow the community’s route between its fields and ascend the path to reach the main road. The best course of action is to head towards Kibuye’s city centre from the Rubengera asphalt crossroads. We take public transit to Kibuye. After four days of walking and hiking, this is the last day. Stay the night at the Bethany Hotel.

Day 7: Kibuye – Nyungwe

After breakfast, we will drive you to Nyungwe National Park so you can experience the canopy walk.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking Nyungwe.

You will trek the chimpanzees in the early morning, hike to a waterfall after lunch and then return to your guest house.

Day 9: Return to Kigali – Departure.

After breakfast in the morning, go back to Kigali and stop at the Ethnographic Museum in Butare en route.
