Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

A pleasant trip to Nyungwe Forest involves stopping at the Butare National Museum, the Murambi Genocide Museum, and the palace of the Nyanza King for a cultural experience. The trip to Nyungwe would take about six to eight hours, assuming that the places listed above are visited.

Accommodation: One & Only Nyungwe House, Nyungwe Top View Hill Lodge.

Meals: (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy Walk Experience.

Transfer to Kyamudongo Forest at 5:00 am for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee tracking trip. Before leaving the forest, visitors are allowed to spend one hour in the company of the chimps. Go back to the lodge where you spent the previous evening.

Accommodation: One & Only Nyungwe House, Nyungwe Top View Hill Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

You will make a transfer to Volcanoes National Park in the morning, stopping briefly along the way for pictures.

Accommodation: Muhabura Hotel, Davinci Lodge, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience – Cultural Walk.

This is the kind of day where you might need to bring a packed lunch because you never know when the gorilla tracking experience will come to an end. When you come across the gorillas, you are only permitted to spend an hour or so in their company. They may now freely traverse the wild in search of food. A natural walk to the twin lakes, Ruhondo and Bulera, or a cultural excursion to Iby’wachu hamlet could be planned for the afternoon.

Accommodation: Muhabura Hotel, Davinci Lodge, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking – Return to Kigali.

Wake up early, have breakfast and head out to the park headquarters before you enter the forest in search of golden monkeys. When you locate the golden monkeys, you will be allowed up to one hour with them for observation and photography. Later exit the forest and get on the road to Kigali City where you will arrive in the evening.

Accommodation: Kigali Serena Hotel, Kigali Marriott Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park.

You will be driven to Akagera National Park early in the morning, in time for a quick game drive around the area. The only savannah park in Rwanda, it currently boasts the presence of all five of the big five mammals after lions and rhinos were recently added. Embark on a boat ride on Lake Ihema in the afternoon. You might observe some water fowl, crocodiles, and hippos.

Accommodation: Ruzizi Tented Lodge, Akagera Game Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7: Return to Kigali – Departure.

Take a game drive in the park’s northern region around six in the morning with the hope of seeing a range of wildlife, such as zebras and antelopes, as well as, if you’re lucky, certain cat species. Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch).
