Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Our company safari guide will be waiting for you at the airport in Kigali. If you have time, you will explore the city of Kigali before beginning the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is home to a variety of habitats such as grasslands, bamboo forests, swamps, and montane forests. It takes 6 to 7 hours, depending on the weather, to travel 219 kilometres from Kigali, Rwanda, to the Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the journey, you might want to stop at some of the tourist attractions. As we wait for dinner and our overnight accommodation, unwind in the evening.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe – Transfer to Gisenyi Town

After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a one-hour training on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking experiences. After that, spend three to four hours searching for primates in the bush. Once located, spend an hour with them before heading back to the resort for lunch. Then, proceed to Gisenyi and arrive in the evening.

Day 3: Boat Cruise on Lake Kivu – Relaxation at the Beach.

The safari guide will be prepared to take you on a boat ride to see fishing communities and islands on Lake Kivu following breakfast in the morning. After that, head back to the resort to unwind while taking in the unobstructed view of Mount Nyiragongo in the Congo. If you have the time, the guide will show you the various landscapes in the evening by taking you around the Congo Nile route.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Golden Monkey Tracking.

After an early breakfast, you will travel from Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. You will depart at approximately 4:30 am and arrive at 6:30 am. You will then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations pertaining to golden monkey tracking while sipping tea from the park. After that, you will board a safari jeep to travel to the starting point for golden monkey tracking. After three to five hours of safari activity, guests will return to the resort for lunch. You will go on community excursions in the afternoon, which include seeing the twin lakes atop the volcanoes. After dinner, head back to the lodge for the night.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Get up extremely early, eat breakfast, and then travel to the Musanze district’s Volcanoes National Park. For a briefing on the gorillas and the distribution of gorilla groups and guides, proceed directly to the park offices. After that, enter the tropical rain forest and look for the mountain gorillas, beginning where they were the day before and continuing until you locate them. They will be feeding their children, climbing trees, and relaxing, among other daily tasks. Turn off your flash and take your best pictures.

The entire activity should take no more than an hour, after which you should return to the park offices to pick up your gorilla tracking certificate. Head back to the hotel for a leisurely lunch. Take a tour of the lake in the afternoon, visit the remarkable caverns surrounding it, and take souvenir pictures with lots of amusing poses close to the caverns before heading back to the lodge for supper and the night.

Day 6: Dian Fossey Tombs Tour

After breakfast, you will visit the graves of the renowned gorilla lover (Dian Fossey) and learn more about her contributions to gorilla conservation. Tracking golden monkeys, going on an exciting walk to Mount Bisoke, or exploring the Musanze caverns are further potential activities. After that, head back to the lodge for dinner and stay the night.

Day 7: Visit Gorilla Guardians Village – Return to Kigali – Departure.

After an early breakfast, travel to the nearby communities to see Gorilla Guardians Village and learn about the authentic culture of the historical Rwandan people. After that, take a shower at the lodge before continuing on to Kigali. After lunch, take a city tour of Kigali to see the local craft stores. Then, head to the airport to catch your flight home.
