Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Bujumbura
After being welcomed and taken to your lodge at the Bujumbura International Airport, you can rest there if you have time before heading into the city to go shopping and exchange money.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibira National Park
You will leave Bujumbura for your final primate hike in Kibira National Park after eating an early-morning meal. There are about 200 different types of birds in the park, 98 different mammal species, and 12 different species of primates, including baboons, red-tailed monkeys, black colobus, and several families of chimpanzees. After your visit, you’ll head back to the lodge to rest and spend the night.

Day 3: Full Day Trekking – Birding in Kibira National Park
You will go to Kibira National Park, one of Burundi’s true birding paradises, after an early breakfast for a full day of birdwatching. Kibira borders Nyungwe Forest. Great blue turaco, mountain buzzard (Buteo oreophilus), white-spotted flufftail (Sarothrura pulchra), grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus), bar-tailed trogon (Apaloderma vittatum), and black-and-white-casqued hornbill (Bycanistes subcylindricus) are a few of the noteworthy birds that can be found here. Later, you’ll spend the night at the lodge.

Day 4: Relax at the Lodge – Short City Tour of Bujumbura
Following breakfast, you will travel to the bustling city of Bujumbura for an afternoon city tour. Originally a German military base, Bujumbura has evolved into an important administrative hub for Burundi, home to a lively local culture.

Day 5: Boat Cruise in Rusizi National Park
After breakfast in the morning, you will drive to Rusizi National Park for a boat ride. This river empties into Lake Tanganyika, providing an excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife, including hippos, antelopes, monkeys, and an abundance of birds. Afterwards, you will return to the lodge for some downtime and supper by the lake.

Day 6: Departure.
Wake up, have breakfast and check of the hotel. Depending on the time of your departure flight, you will go on a tour of Bujumbura City and later be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
