Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Our tour guide will greet you and give you an overview of the 5 Days Tour to Volcanoes National Park. Depending on when you arrive, you can then travel to the lodge for supper and an overnight stay, or you can do a city tour of Kigali.
Accommodation: Kigali Serena Hotel, Kigali Marriott Hotel, Hotel Chez Lando.
Meals: (Dinner).
Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
After breakfast in the morning, you will meet your driver for a city tour that takes you to the Presidential Palace Museum, the main city market, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, and a few other sites that might catch your attention. Following the city tour, our guide will take you to a convenient location for lunch before beginning the three-hour drive to the Volcanoes National Park.
Large tea plantations and stunning hilly countryside are seen throughout the route. You’ll learn why they call Rwanda “The Land of a thousand hills.” You will be driven directly to your hotel after arriving at the park so you can check in and unwind in your room or in the hotel gardens. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep so you can tackle gorilla trekking the following day.
Accommodation: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Da Vinci Lodge.
Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience – Visit the Gorilla Guardians Village.
At 7:00 am, there is a gorilla tracking briefing. At the Kinigi headquarters, park officials are organising this briefing. It is required of all trackers to report to the park headquarters and attend the briefing in order to receive an overview of the activities. You will be allocated to one of the ten habituated gorilla families in the Volcanoes National Park, as we previously mentioned, depending on your level of fitness. Officials from the park will lead you into the woodland after the briefing is over.
In Volcanoes National Park, gorilla trekking takes two to six hours. You get an hour to observe your gorilla family after you find them. If the silverback tries to display strength, pay attention to what your guide tells you and maintain your composure. Avert startling or needless movements to prevent disturbing the gorillas. You will head back to the starting point where our guide will be waiting to take you back to your hotel for lunch after you have spent an hour studying the primates.
As you wait for the driver to take you to the Gorilla Guardians Village after lunch, take a shower and relax. The Iby’iwacu Cultural Village was the previous name of the village. Originally serving as a location for former poachers to sell souvenirs to tourists, it has since been restored to become one of the nation’s most important cultural hubs. Cultural artists will entertain you for a while, and you will be asked to participate.
Accommodation: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Da Vinci Lodge.
Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Day 4: Second Gorilla Trekking Experience – Visit Lake Burera and Ruhondo.
After breakfast, you will head to the national park offices in Volcanoes or attend another gorilla tracking briefing. During the briefing or at the starting site, you will have the option to hire a porter to assist with any heavy bags. You will discover them feeding on the ground and on tree branches after hiking for roughly two hours. They are extremely vulnerable to human threats and are in critical endangered status. When you return to the starting place after spending some time with them, our driver will be waiting for you. Lunch and refreshments will be served next, and then you’ll be driven to the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera.
Accommodation: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Da Vinci Lodge.
Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking – Departure.
After eating breakfast at the lodge, take a golden monkey tour in the park’s rain forests, where you may get up close and personal with the adorable but reticent monkeys as they swing from tree branches.
