Enquire Now The only savanna national park in Rwanda where safari game drives are permitted is Akagera National Park, which is situated in the country’s eastern region on the Tanzanian border. With the recent addition of lions, Akagera National Park is renowned for housing the Big Five. Several mammal species can be found in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only Savannah park. These include lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, and, most recently, black rhinos, which were brought from South Africa to make the park a big five park as it was many years ago.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park.
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at your hotel this morning, our safari guide will pick you up and take you to Akagera National Park. Depending on the stops made along the way, the trip takes roughly two and a half hours. The park offers stunning scenery, so feel free to ask the guide for photo ops. After a quick game drive when we get to the park, we’ll check in for lunch and head to our lodging. After ordering lunch, we take a boat ride on Lake Ihema, where we may see crocodiles and hippos swimming in the water or along the coasts, as well as buffaloes and elephants lazing at the water’s edge. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Transfer Back to Kigali.
After an early breakfast, set out for an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park at 6:00 am to meet up with late hunters and early risers. Among the large animals we will be searching for are elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelope species, and most recently, the reintroduced lions and rhinos. The park is home to over 500 different bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers and a varied habitat for wildlife. Before beginning the drive back to Kigali, you will depart the lodge with a packed lunch for the game drive, which should last roughly six hours, depending on your preferences. You will follow the lake’s path, which frequently features a variety of species to observe. After that, you will be left off at the airport or resort so you can catch your afternoon flight.
