10 Days Uganda Birding Safari

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival – Entebbe.

Once you reach the Entebbe International Airport, make your way to the hotel. We bird the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, depending on when you arrive.

Accommodation: Rain Forest Lodge Mabira.

Meals: (Dinner).

Day 2: Uganda Birding Tour to Mabira Forest.

The largest woodland reserve nearest to the city centre is this one. With 74 of the 144 species of the Guinea-Congo Forests biome that are found in Uganda, it surpasses the record of 315 bird species. Look for the IUCN Red List endangered Nahan’s Francolin; Cassin’s Hawk-eagle; White-spotted Flufftail; Afep Pigeon; Grey Parrot; Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo; Black-shouldered Nightjar; Sabine’s Spinetail; Cassin’s Spinetail; Blue-throated Roller; African Dwarf Kingfisher; White-bellied Kingfisher; African Pied Hornbill; Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill; Speckled Tinkerbird; Yellow-throated Tinkerbird; Jameson’s and Chestnut Wattle-eyes Among these are the Red-tailed Bristlebil, Cassin’s Honey Guide, Speckle-breasted, Yellow-crested, Brown-eared, and Fire-crested Alethe, Red-capped Robin-Chat, and Forest Robin.

Day 3: Uganda Birding Safari to Budongo Forest.

You will go bird watching today in Budongo Forest, which is home to two bird species that are unique to East Africa and has a thriving birdlife. In Uganda, there are 10 of the 22 species found in the Sudan-Guinea Savannah biome and 93 of the 144 species found in the Guinea-Congo Forests biome. We travel with a packed lunch.

Day 4: Birding in the Royal Mile.

A few other noteworthy birds to watch out for are the Black-eared Ground-Thrush, Little Crake, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, African Paradise Flycatcher, Chin-spot Batis, White-headed Saw-wing, White Wagtail, Grey-throated Barbet, Yellow-billed Barbet, and Chocolate-backed Kingfisher. Grey-backed Camaroptera, Lemon-bellied Crombec, Black-crowned Waxbill, Bronze Mannikin, Black-billed Bluebill, Black-winged Red Bishop, Yellow-mantled Widowbird, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Spectacled Weaver, Black-necked Weaver, Yellow-backed Weaver, Compact Weaver, Northern Brown-throated Weaver, Holub’s Golden Weaver, Red-headed Weaver, Yellow-billed Oxpecker, Among many more are the Isabelline Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, Lesser Grey Shrike, Isabelline Starling, Purple Starling, Purple-headed Starling, Splendid Starling, Northern Puffback, Black-headed Gonolek, Tropical Boubou, and Western Violet-backed Sunbird.

Day 5: Birding in Budongo and Kaniyo Pabidi Bird Watching Spots.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, return to Budongo Forest to try to see any bird species that you might have missed the day before. After enjoying a healthy bird viewing experience at Kaniyo Pabidi, continue back to the resort for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Birding in Semliki National Park

Many of the most remarkable and sought-after birds on the continent, like the Long-tailed Hawk, Congo Serpent Eagle, Lyre-tailed Honeyguide, Black-wattled Hornbill, and Nkulengu Rail, are found only in Semuliki National Park. These species are primarily Central African and are unique to East Africa. There is only one unsubstantiated report of the Lesser Kestrel, which is endangered worldwide.

Day 7 & 8: Birding in Semliki Forest and the Kirumiya Trail

We spend two days bird watching the area because it is among the richest in Africa in terms of both vegetation and fauna, especially birds. The African Piculate, Blue Swallow, White-throated Blue Swallow, Swamp Palm Bulbul, Spotted Greenbul, White-starred Robin, Lowland Akalat, Red-throated Alethe, Fire-crested Alethe, and White-starred Robin are among the 400 species that we want to record. Red-eyed Puffback, Blue-shouldered Robin-Chat, Snowy-headed Robin-Chat, Black Saw-wing, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Purple-throated Cuckoo-shrike, Petit’s Cuckoo-shrike, Yellow-throated Nicator, Mountain Greenbul, Toro Olive Greenbul, and Western Nicator The Long-tailed Hawk Afep Pigeon, Blue-headed Coucal, Red-thighed Sparrowhawk, Chestnut-flanked Goshawk, Grant’s Bluebill, Bates’s Nightjar, Swamp Nightjar, Cassin’ Spinetail, Sabine’s Spine tail, To name a few, there are the White-bellied Kingfisher, Shinning-blue Kingfisher, Hairy-breasted, Yellow-billed, Double-toothed, Black-billed, and White-headed barbets.

Day 9: Return to Kampala.

After eating breakfast and packing a lunch, return to Kampala and spend the final night in Entebbe.
